synopsis
Akira Kurosawa (1910-1998) was, undoubtedly, one of the greatest directors in the history of Japanese cinema, whose work was acclaimed throughout the world. From "Rashomon" (1950) through "Seven Samurai" (1954) to his late masterpiece "Ran" (1985), Kurosawa produced one of the most important and influential bodies of work in the history of filmmaking. This is a biographical documentary about the man and his career. The film features remarkable archival footage of Kurosawa talking about his work and also some fascinating glimpses of him on set, shooting a number of his most acclaimed films. These are combined with contemporary interviews with friends and associates of Kurosawa's, members of his cast and crew, respected academics and famous admirers, such as Clint Eastwood and George Lucas. As a result, we are given perhaps the most comprehensive portrait of Kurosawa ever to be made.
