Anna, a game warden, and her brother Marius, a priest, live isolated lives together in Africa. As each other's only kin, Marius has grown very close to Anna, who in turn is devoted to the local herd of elephants. When someone begins slaughtering the animals, Anna takes action. But the arrival in town of Stone, an American lawyer, sparks her romantic interest. When the two fall in love and take after the elephant poachers, Anna is unexpectedly forced to confront some hard truths about things she has loved.
