An illiterate man escorts a noblewoman, Porzia, from her convent school to her husband-to-be's estate. However, the caravan is attacked by bandits who quickly dispatch the escort. Porzia has only the young coachman Bartolo left to continue the journey on horseback. Their path is filled with peril including narrowly escaping the plague to being captured by leering soldiers.
