Forty-four-year-old Juan is an out-of-work electrician who leaves his family and heads for Madrid in search of work. Juan works illegally as a construction worker and meets Andy, a Caribbean mulatto and illegal immigrant who has a never-say-die attitude. When the job is finished, Juan, by now sleeping in doorways, meets Andy again, who introduces him to Sonia. The three slowly become friends as Juan reluctantly agrees to associate with outsiders.
