Shy insurance agent Gregoire Moulin works in a Paris office with a view overlooking a ballet studio. Over time, Gregoire has fallen in love with dance teacher Odile, whom he silently admires but dares not approach. Finally, desperate to meet her, Gregoire decides to steal Odile's wallet in a restaurant, calling her the next day in the guise of a stranger wishing to return it. The two set a date to meet, but when the time arrives, Gregoire finds himself locked out of his office, unable to retrieve the wallet. As Gregoire rushes to keep his appointment with Odile, he gets caught up in the frenzy of a particularly busy Paris evening.
