Film.com's FREE movie of the week is "Love the Hard Way." Oscar-winner Adrien Brody and Charlotte Ayanna star in this drama about a thief who falls for a curious, beautiful young woman. As their intimacy grows, a slick cop (Pam Greer) is closing in.
During WWII, newlyweds Hans and Helene are separted during a chaotic evacuation. Helene flees east with their baby and the two are taken in by a friendly Polish woman farmer. After the war, Helene develops facial paralysis, begins to drink heavily and almost kills herself. In the end, the only thing that saves her from self destruction is her love for her daughter.
