synopsis
Blind San Francisco blues singer Paul Pena goes to the Central Asian Republic of Tuva for a competition of "throat singing," a unique musical form in which a single voice produces multiple different sounds. Previously unheard outside of Tuva, throatsinging is a traditional form in the isolated republic. Pena was honored by the Tuvan people and became friends with Kongar-ol Ondar, a Tuvan singer. This is a story about exploration and friendship, the story of a man whose struggle in life is not defined by conformity and rules, but by an unquenchable curiosity and love of music.
