While some in law enforcement pursued John Gotti with a tunnel vision in the mid 1970’s and early 1980’s, Roy DeMeo’s Canarsie crew was running a criminal empire in East New York that rivaled even Albert Anastasia’s murders. Although Roy and his crew were involved in everything from drugs, to extortion, to pornography, to contract killings, their main source of revenue came from stealing cars. After partnering up with Jimmy Coonan and the Westies, the body counts came close to 200 murders. Nearly ten years would pass before the body count could no longer be denied.
