When Pierre is left standing at the altar by fiancee France, he hires a private detective to track her down. Not only has she disappeared, but she has absconded with half a million francs in a briefcase. The detective, Luigi, is himself unlucky in love, having recently been divorced. His hunt for France takes him all over the country and even to New York.
