Michael Makeshift is a chronic loser whose fiancee hasn't called him in six months, who attends AA meetings just for company and whose psychiatrist supplies him with "video dog" tapes because Michael fears a real pet might abandon him. One night, Michael's ne'er-do-well brother, Reggie, appears at Michael's door with his very beautiful, very unconscious bride, Valerie. He begs Michael to watch over her for a few days until a business deal comes through that he promises will make them all rich. Countless double-deals, triple-crosses and misunderstandings later, Valerie and Michael realize they are in love. Unfortunately, they're also in-laws.
