'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' on DVD -
Terry Gilliam. Johnny Depp. Giant bats. Verne Troyer as Wee Waiter. What more do you need? Journalist Raoul Duke (Depp) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (Benicio del Toro) travel to Las Vegas in 1971 to cover the Mint 400 motorcycle race for a sports magazine. This haphazardly planned vacation takes a turn for the whacked-out as the two consume copious drugs, commit various acts of fraud, and generally wreak havoc upon the citizens of Las Vegas. The film is a fictionalized account of writer Hunter S. Thompson and attorney Oscar Zeta Acosta's two trips to Las Vegas in March and April of that year. "Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. Has it been five years? Six? It seems like a lifetime, the kind of peak that never comes again. San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be a part of. But no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant." Who else can you spot in the movie? For starters -- Tobey Maguire as the Hitchhiker, Ellen Barkin as the Waitress at North Star Cafe, Gary Busey as the Highway Patrolman, Christina Ricci as Lucy, Mark Harmon as the Magazine Reporter at Mint 400, Cameron Diaz as the Blonde TV Reporter, Michael Jeter as L. Ron Bumquist, Penn Jillette as the Carnie Talker, Flea as Hippie, Verne Troyer as Wee Waiter, and lordy so many more! Most Popular Stories
