Matteo is a high school senior who is somewhat distracted from his studies and probably won't graduate in time. He meets an older woman: artist Margherita, and their affair takes him even further from school. Soon he moves into her studio, and though he feels himself to be cosmopolitan, he begins to worry that she is cheating on him. He falls into a vortex of jealousy, and must meantime try and fake his way to graduation.
