Conquest, Saskatchewan is an outpost that has seen better days. The crops are failing and hardly anyone comes through any more. But when Daisy MacDonald's car dies on her, she is persuaded by local banker Pincer to take over the local store in return for the price of repairs. And once she has stayed a while, Conquest begins to exercise a fascination over her.
