synopsis
An inside view of the post-Seinfeld life of Jerry Seinfeld. Neither a concert film, nor a biographical documentary, the film examines the birth of a comedy act and offers a window into the details of backstage life and the challenge of making people laugh. Seinfeld is revealed in ways no one has seen before: struggling with difficult material; confronting self-doubt; accepting the help of friends and colleagues, simply as another comedian trying to put together an act. On stage, Seinfeld talks about marriage, recalls his time as the country’s most eligible bachelor and offers new perspectives on the observations of the every day. But it is off-stage--where he shares the struggle with other comics including Colin Quinn, Chris Rock, Gary Shandling and Jay Leno--that a more personal, alternately funny and surprising, portrait emerges.

This hilariously insightful documentary follows Jerry Seinfeld through the process of trying to build a stand-up routine -- an experience that's painful, even with a private jet. His story parallels that of Orny Adams, a curiously confident, not untalented comic hopeful. The DVD features lots of cool extras, including Jiminy Glick interviewing both comics, and audio commentary from Seinfeld and pal Colin Quinn making repeated fun of Adams. Excellent if mildly malevolent material about a gig in
A documentary look at superstar Jerry Seinfeld as he returns to comedy, and the funny guys he meets including newcomer Orny Adams, as they perform, complain, schmooze and share trade secrets. Story This documentary follows superstar Jerry Seinfeld as he returns to stand-up, trying out all-new jokes on tour. Along the way he meets newbie and fiercely driven young comic Orny Adams, who aces his gig at Montreal's classic comedy festival and lands a dream manager (Seinfeld's own, George Shapiro).

You might not think there's much to a documentary that follows Jerry Seinfeld around the country's comedy clubs while he develops new material for his stand-up act. You'd be wrong. It's funny as hell, and like all comedy that stings, sorrowful at its core. Director Christian Charles and producer Gary Streiner (with two digital cameras) parallel Seinfeld's quest with the rise of young comic Orny Adams, who seems on the verge of a breakdown. The result is an indispensable peek at the art and the
