Bye-bye Brandon: American Idol Recap

It’s adios time!

At this point a 30 minute Idol feels like a walk in the park. 30 minutes? Please, I could do that in my sleep. I’m battle hardened on two-hour shows. I scoff at your piddly 30 minutes.

Seacrest is sporting a purple tie. Laura likes it. I’m lukewarm.

Recap?? Is anyone tuning in for the first time around here? C’mon, this is time filler central.

The gang gets together for a brutal Diana Ross tribute. Really the gang singing anything together comes off like when the Brady Bunch formed a band. Each singer tries to put their stamp on their eight seconds of lyrics so it sounds like the worst choir ever. No more recaps and no more group singing. Instead I propose an obstacle course. The winner gets a bye week. Tell me you wouldn’t watch this.

The three lowest vote getters are: Brandon, Phil, and someone they’ll announce in ten minutes. Nothing shocking so far.

Diana Ross sings, which almost seems sad to me. I mean, if she’s truly a giant star, why is she performing here? Oh, I see, it’s to promote a tour. Also, what about Diana Ross for Paula Abdul’s slot next year? You know it will be available. Don’t pretend.

Sanjaya takes his rightful place in the bottom three, and the grim reaper can be seen striding beside him.

Phil Stacey gets released back into the safety herd. It’s down to Sanjaya and Brandon.

Sanjaya survives again! This kid has dodged more bullets than 50 Cent. I swear some people booed him as he walked back to the bleachers. Brandon doesn’t get to sing us out either, that’s just insulting.

Next week, same drill. We can only hope super Sanjaya sticks around a little longer so this thing doesn’t become just a simple matter of talent. America, we’re counting on you.
