Black Snake Moan, Hot Fuzz, Blades of Glory

Hello, boys and girls, once again it’s time we take a peek at everyone’s favorite part of going to the movies: coming attractions.
Black Snake Moan
Directed by: Craig Brewer
Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, Christina Ricci, Justin Timberlake
Whoop that trick! I love the blues music that stretches across this trailer, and just like director Craig Brewer’s last film, I’m going to have to go out and buy the soundtrack when it comes out. Thankfully, the movie releases next month, which is extra nice because it’s one of my most anticipated films of 2007. Brewer rocked my socks off with 2005′s Hustle and Flow and it looks like he just might do it again here.
I think far too many forget what a great actor Sam “The Man” can be when he’s got a real role to sink his teeth into. This looks like that kind of role. And you know, there was a time when Christina Ricci looked like a being from another planet to me, but the girl’s all grown up now and … it ain’t half bad. This looks like a real actor’s showcase for both stars, and no, I’m not referring to Justin Timberlake.
Jackson looks like he’s playing one of his classic roles, doesn’t he? A little scary, maybe more than a little unbalanced, but a sense of morality, however skewed. In a kind of perverse way, the story looks fun (I’m not sure what that says about me) because of the approach Brewer seems to be taking. One of the best titles of the year, Black Snake Moan looks like something special.
Hot Fuzz
Directed by: Edgar Wright
Starring: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Steve Coogan, Timothy Dalton
Fans of Shaun of the Dead rejoice! Last time Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg got together to turn the flesh-eating zombie genre on it’s head. This time they’re going to do it with an action comedy. I’ll be seeing this one opening night, but I could give a darn how good the action is. I just want to see Pegg and co-star Nick Frost bounce off each other the way they did in their previous project. Shaun of the Dead didn’t cause too big a stir in the States, but maybe Hot Fuzz is the movie that puts this team on the map. I don’t know how any sane person wouldn’t want to see this movie.
Blades of Glory
Directed by: Josh Gordon, Will Speck
Starring: Will Ferrell, Jon Heder, Amy Poehler, William Fichtner
The first thing we need to do is find out which suit over at Dreamworks had the idea of putting Will Ferrell in a figure-skating movie and give that man a big, fat raise. Then we need to plea to the United States government that he no longer has to pay taxes for as long as he lives. People, when someone does good, we must reward them so that others will learn from their ways. Add Jon Heder and making them the first male figure-skating team? Well, it might have to be lifetime entry into the Playboy mansion after that.
