Big Hitter: Megan Fox, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and Much More!

It’s time once again for a little game of “what did the PR folk send Laremy?” This is my favorite game – it ranges from the obscure to the silly and everywhere in between. Every once in awhile we get some huge news, such as WB delaying Potter for no good reason. It’s on those days that the job gets interesting.

Now then, today in press releases, the fine folks at MGM have realized that Megan Fox is in their film How to Lose Friends & Alienate People. And even though Jeff Bridges, Kirsten Dunst, and Simon Pegg (of the tremendous Hot Fuzz) are also in the film they don’t look quite like Ms. Fox. I give MGM credit though, you’ve got to play the cards you’re dealt, so I’ll run the photos at the bottom of this post. If you’re the impatient type just scroll down. There. Now we’re left with those who enjoy “words.”

Interestingly enough there was a big debate over at Hollywood-Elsewhere about Megan Fox. Or rather what she represents. You’ll also find the current and former Editor-In-Chief of Cinematical taking shots at each other in the comments section. I got in there too, if only because I’ve never quite grasped the position of “we’ve got to give the people what they don’t know they want.” I still don’t really agree, but I do respect the hell out of Kim Voynar for taking the time to make a solid argument. Hey, she’s in Seattle! Why haven’t I been taken out for coffee? We tackled this issue on the podcast last week too, that’s hitting you on all fronts!

I’m behind the times on this next item, but I feel obligated to show one of the SNL digital shorts as the boys keep pushing the envelope. This is from two weeks ago, when Michael Phelps hosted, and I think it was only done to see if they could confuse Lorne Michaels. It’s extremely funny… and weird too. The best of both worlds. Sidenote: I interviewed Andy Samberg and his SNL writing pals Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer last year and came away extremely impressed. These guys are doing things with digital shorts that will eventually change the game.

Next up, a new Bond theme has been leaked. The best take on it was from our own Evil Beet. She crushed it. But sometimes things need to be crushed. In late breaking Bond news it seems as though the famous catchphrase won’t be used for Quantum of Solace. Wow. No Bond, James Bond? If true, that’s a stunning departure from tradition.

In the random (though beloved) column I did on when and how Film.com screens films and runs movie reviews I forgot the best part. If I screen a movie here in Seattle (where I live) I’m then obligated to hold the review until film releases in Seattle. That’s why we haven’t run a Duchess review yet, even though I’ve seen it (it’s good). Thus, in the view of the studios and publicists, online outlets represent their localities.

Ponder that for a second. The view of the studios and PR reps is that Film.com caters to Seattle. Wait, what? Umm, aren’t we on the Internet? Don’t we cater to the world? It’s not like we call ourselves The Seattle Times (though we tried that for a few days until the lawyers got involved). Sigh. The best part of it is that Film.com has writers in Austin, Chicago, New York, Miami, Portland, Seattle, and Los Angeles which muddies the process even further. We end up seeing films all over. But no, seriously, keep those arbitrary rules coming! And thus ends the random insidery lament of the week.

Photo time!

First up, Zack and Miri Make a Porno. There are rumors afoot that they may let me talk to Kevin Smith, interview style, so I want to show off the two photos I like best. Here they be:

Rogen and Banks are just likable aren’t they? Kevin Smith too. He saved my Comic-Con 2008 by being hilarious.

Okay, we can’t avoid it any longer. It’s Megan Fox time.

Hmmm. It seems as though Ms. Fox has a real fascination with her face and hair. Luckily, most of the Internets do too.

Ah, they sent along a video as well. This clears up why she was in the pool. Clearly a solid storyline.

Allright, I’m outta here. Since last week’s Dinobots column went so well I’m tackling a part two tomorrow. My second take? I’m advocating that either Shia or Megan perishes this go-round. That’s not a joke or satire – I think it’s the only other way (besides Dinobots) that we can make the film solid. With great power comes great responsibility. See you then.
