Set in a small town in southern Germany, a tale which chronicles the life of a young girl whose parents are deaf. Since earliest childhood, Lara has been the bridge between her parents and the outside world. One day, Lara is given a clarinet by her aunt Clarissa, an attractive woman with a zest for life. This gift opens her mind to the wondrous world of music and begins the process of leaving the safe haven of her family behind. Lara's passion for the clarinet causes a rift between her love for her parents and her newfound love of music. As a result, she begins to understand that her unusual childhood does not have to throw a dark shadow over her life; rather, her experience is the well from which she derives strength.
