The story of two women and the support group that anchors them. Debbie is a forty-three year old midwife. We Watch her story develop--from her pregnancy by a known donor, through the birth of her baby, and finally to the celebration of her son's first birthday. Jan, also forty-three, has a bumpier road. Despite dozens of attempts and thousands of dollars, she fails to become pregnant. Jan's quest is characterized by unending optimism, profound disappointment and the ultimate decision to adopt. The stories of these two, together with discussions with their families and friends and highlights of the experiences of the other six women in the group, come together to create a complex portrait of women who want to become mothers.
