A 17-year-old boy tries to come to grips with his mother's bouts of insanity, caused by the loss of his younger brother ten years earlier. He forms an unlikely friendship with an embittered and volatile classmate on the run for murder, when he agrees to let him hide in the family's garden shed. But the fugitive finds himself a captive of the increasingly deranged young man.
