Two young boys from Thief Village steal the golden eyes from a dragon seal while swapping exam papers for a pupil in the imperial civil service exams. Their theft has unexpected repercussions. Their village, already fending off marauding bandits, is threatened with annihilation by the local governor as part of his plan to cover up one of his own faux pas. The villagers feel their only hope for survival would be the return of their home-grown redeemer, a master thief with magical powers who legendarily vanished into thin air years before.
