Newly widowed Emilie van Thuile visits the site of her archaeologist husband's last excavation. Once there she is immediately courted by Hugo, her dead husband's assistant, and agress to marry him. However, she begins to question her decision when the striking Captain Aldo arrives and begins to seduce the young widow away. Unable to compete with the new suitor, Hugo can only watch as Emilie and Aldo disappear on a lover's trist. But the dark consequences of Emilie's impetuous affair come back to haunt her when Captain Aldo coldly leaves her and she begins to question evrything she has left, including her sanity.
