Tadas tells an autobiographical tale of his life as a painter and his childhood in the Balkans after Stalin was appeased at Yalta. His childhood is filled with stories of degradation and deprivation before he is sent away to live with relatives in the country. Eventually, Tadas's father returns to find his son has become a cynical, insolent adolescent.
