Released: June 1st

Studio: Universal

Rating: R

Running Time: 129 Minutes

Why: Knocked Up proved that Judd Apatow could make a killer comedy with you, me, and a few props. Knocked Up is easily the best conventional comedy of the year, but you’ve got to get past any inferred political message. Because this isn’t a social commentary, it’s a situational comedy. And there are wry laughs to be found every few minutes here.

Would Have Been Rated Higher If: There is a staggering shot of childbirth that was comedically pointless here. It’s also slightly unrealistic to think Heigl would go home with Seth Rogen here on planet Earth.

Critical Love: It’s safe to say this was a giant fusion of critics and general public. 91% on Rotten Tomatoes? That’s territory reserved for the artsiest of artsy films. Congrats Knocked Up. By and large you survived the gauntlet.

Box Office: $145m. But it hasn’t opened internationally yet and the most expensive thing in the production was probably the cameras. A big win for Universal.

DVD Info: N/A. I would guess that this will get a giant special feature laden release around Christmas.
