Released: March 9th

Studio: Warner Bros.

Rating: R

Running Time: 117 Minutes

Why: 300 took the world by storm in March, proving graphic artist Frank Miller could appeal to the masses. The cast was largely unknown, and the visual style was innovative and stylistic. But it all worked, a very entertaining action packed movie released in a time where we usually only get the dregs.

Would Have Been Rated Higher If: The story could have been tighter and less predictable.

Critical Love: Reviewers never really caught on to what this one was about. It only pulled down a barely fresh 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. My theory is that selected critics whiffed on the fact that this was a visual treat first and foremost.

Box Office: $455m. Right now 300 should make around $250m in profit and Warner Bros. started popping the champagne after it made $70m on its opening weekend.

DVD Info: July 31st. And it’s a two-disc special too! This is going to be bigger than the Beatles.
