Movie: Doogal

Weinstein Company Involvement: Produced the Film, Distributed the DVD.

Critical / Financial Result:
Five percent, out of one hundred, on the Tomato-Meter. Even better, a 2.6 out of 10 on IMDB.com’s user ratings. The film actually made $26.4m worldwide so given they didn’t invest in money in plot perhaps they did okay. And it only cost a little bit of their soul!

Failed Because:
Putting the word “Doo” right in the title was sort of a lay-up for the critics. The main character, the dog, was obnoxious instead of lovable and Moose farts were the highlight of the film.

What Could Have Saved It:
Dropping Jimmy Fallon would have been a start. I like him in a general sense but seems to kill everything he appears in, unless you count Fever Pitch or Taxi as worthy.

Disaster Quotient:
Wizard of Oz style. If you owned a barn, and it blew away in a tornado, and you couldn’t get in the trap door… well, that would be a bit like producing and distributing the Doogal.
