2012 Black List Screenplays Announced

Once upon a time, the words “Black List” had a decidedly sinister connotation in Hollywood, thanks to efforts in the 1950s to ostracize anyone with suspected communist ties. Nowadays, though, the annual Black List honoring the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood is one of mist highly anticipated events of the year.

And we’ve got this year’s top 10 right here.

Featuring 78 of the best scripts still waiting to be made into films, the Black List is compiled and voted on by more than 290 film executives. Since the Black List’s inception in 2005, more than 200 screenplays from the list have subsequently been turned into major motion pictures; the inaugural list alone included hits like “Michael Clayton,” “The Queen,” “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” “Horrible Bosses” and “The Blind Side.”

Suffice it to say that for movie fans, the Black List represents a unique chance to see what tomorrow’s best films are going to be (case in point: Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming epic “Django Unchained” was one of last year’s finalists). So what projects can film fans look forward to seeing in the theater sometime soon?

Well, a full listing of all of this year’s 78 finalists can be found on the official Black List website, but here’s a look at their top 10 screenplays of 2012:

10. “Devils at Play” by James DiLapo (28 votes)

8. (tie) “Me & Earl & The Dying Girl” by Jesse Andrews (29 votes)
