2011 Golden Globes Winners and Live Blog

Note: Golden Globes Winners Listed in Blue
3:07pm: Olivia Wilde was the first red carpet guest, and they give her the full E! GlamCam360 treatment. My question is what Olivia will get up to for the next two hours? Is there a Golden Globes bar?
3:20pm: I’m a big fan of the E! Skybox. But I’d be an even bigger fan of an E! Zeppelin. All the fashion we could handle, from 20,000 feet!
3:24pm: Giuliana Rancic just asked a serious cultural question to Australian Chris Hemsworth, which he gamely attempted to answer. A very strange moment. You could tell he was expecting something along the lines of “Was Thor’s hammer heavy?”
3:28pm: Jim Parsons towers over Seacrest. If we were fielding an All-Hollywood basketball team we’d draft Ryan at “left out”.
3:33pm: Scott Caan sighting. He’s one of the fellas behind the new Hawaii Five-0. The pitch meeting for that show went something like:
TV Exec: Are there any procedural crime dramas on the air right now?
TV Exec #2: Nope!
TV Exec: Okay, we’re in for two full seasons, start cutting the checks!
3:55pm: Kevin Bacon is wearing Dior … and I’ve locked up that search engine term for life.
3:58pm: Natalie Portman trained hard for Black Swan? Seacrest’s interview with her reminded me of Frost / Nixon, except the opposite.
4:01pm: Switching over to NBC’s coverage with Carson Daly. We keep it pretty classy around here.
4:02pm: Ricky Gervais promises shenanigans if he gets drunk enough. Get that man a shot!
4:09pm: Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock might be dating? This disturbs me, as does any memory of The Proposal.
4:15pm: Jesse Eisenberg drops some Social Network knowledge on us. Solid film, but all the “Best Picture” talk definitely throws me.
4:19pm: Bieber is acting crazy! Purple glasses, classic work there.
4:27pm: I stopped watching Chuck. The love angle was just getting extremely overwrought.
4:30pm: January Jones said she just hopes “everything stays put” in her dress. Well then.
4:34pm: They are holding a beat too long on every interview. I would call this the “awkward-cam” if I were marketing the technique.
4:45pm: We’re only fifteen minutes away from showtime!
4:50pm: The crowd I’m live bloggin’ with doesn’t dig Anne Hathaway’s look. I’m fine with it, but then again I’m wearing a Scooby-Doo onesie.
4:53pm: What’s the research and development budget look like for fashion? Is it at all like the space race?
5:01pm: Ricky Gervais kicks it off with a Charlie Sheen joke. And then he rails the The Tourist! “It must be good because it’s nominated.” Next, he pivots toward destroying The HFPA.
If Ricky Gervais was a stock, I would buy all of it. The room is stunned.
5:05pm: Best Supporting Actor Goes to Christian Bale for The Fighter
5:07pm: If you can find anyone to bet against Christian Bale for The Academy Award, you should take that bet.
5:08pm: They brutally play Bale off. Sorry, Christian, we’ve got about a dozen television awards to bust out!
5:10pm: Best Lead Actress for a Television Drama Goes to Katey Sagal for Sons of Anarchy
5:12pm: Sagal gets played off too. The HFPA isn’t taking any prisoners this evening.
5:17pm: Gia Mantegna is Miss Golden Globe 2011. They don’t play her off, but she doesn’t get to do anything more than wave either.
5:18pm: Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made For Television Goes to Carlos
5:19pm: I bet those Carlos fellas didn’t think they were making a television movie when they were premiering at Cannes last May.
5:21pm: Three for three on winners being played off. Bright side: Ricky Gervais has successfully turned this show into a roast.
5:25pm: Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made For Television Goes to Chris Colfer for Glee
5:26pm: Colfer doesn’t get played off! That’s an upset, the Vegas odds were off the board on that one. But seriously, I salute his brevity, he could be in for a majestic career if he continues showing that sort of timing.
5:29pm: I’ve been missing Parks and Recreation, glad to see it coming back. That’s a quality show.
5:32pm: The president of The HFPA fires back at Gervais, which is like the Cub Scouts taking on The Delta Force. Cute, but not close.
5:34pm: Best Actor for a Television Drama Goes to Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire
5:35pm: Buscemi thanks table 114 for being a good time. He shoots, he scores.
5:38pm: Best Television Drama Goes to Boardwalk Empire
5:39pm: Boardwalk Empire producer Martin Scorsese couldn’t attend the Golden Globes because he was too busy just living his life.
Golden Globes Gallery
5:44pm: They saddle poor Andrew Garfield with the word “inspiringly” for his Social Network introduction and he can’t get through it for the life of him. Poor guy. He needed an Aaron Sorkin rewrite.
5:48pm: Best Song Goes to “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me” from Burlesque
5:50pm: Best Original Score Goes to Trent Reznor for The Social Network
5:52pm: Can’t argue with that, a very solid score.
5:56pm: Best Animated Film Goes to Toy Story 3
5:59pm: Robert Downey Jr. describes the show as “hugely mean-spirited with sinister undertones.” Nicely done.
6:03pm: Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical goes to Annette Bening for The Kids Are All Right
6:05pm: Bening’s speech isn’t great. In her defense, I thought Julianne Moore was better in the film anyway.
6:12pm: Best Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made For Television Goes to Al Pacino for You Don’t Know Jack
6:16pm: Best Actress in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made For Television Goes to Claire Danes for Temple Grandin
6:19pm: They haven’t played off anyone in a good long while. We need more Gervais, I’m getting restless.
6:20pm: The new Adam Sandler film looks horrific. Just Go With It? No, I don’t believe I will.
6:28pm: Best Screenplay Goes to Aaron Sorkin for The Social Network
6:29pm: Sorkin calls Zuckerberg “altruistic” which is evidently a “sorry there, fella” for the whole “hit piece” angle that will likely win Best Picture.
6:30pm: Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made For Television Goes to Jane Lynch for Glee
6:31pm: Hard not to love Lynch, and I’d like to personally thank Christopher Guest for bringing her into my life so many years ago.
6:37pm: Best Foreign Language Picture Goes to In a Better World from Denmark
6:39pm: I haven’t seen In A Better World yet, but it had nice buzz coming out of The Toronto Film Festival.
6:40pm: So far I’d say the winners of the evening are Glee, The Social Network, and anyone Ricky Gervais hasn’t crushed yet.
6:41pm: Best Lead Actress for a Television Musical or Comedy Goes to Laura Linney for The Big C
6:46pm: Harry’s Law isn’t very high on my “things to watch” list, even though Kathy Bates is throwing large amounts of sass in my direction. She doesn’t take no guff!
6:48pm: Best Lead Actor for a Television Musical or Comedy Goes to Jim Parsons for The Big Bang Theory
6:49pm: A least part of his victory was due to him appearing in this live blog at 3:28 p.m. See, people? Hard work pays off.
6:51pm: Best Supporting Actress Goes to Melissa Leo for The Fighter
6:53pm: Is The Fighter gaining steam? My sources indicate “no” but my heart is screaming “sure!”
6:59pm: Robert De Niro is about to be honored with The Cecil B. deMille Award. I enjoyed his work in Raging Bull.
They only showed half a second of Heat in the montage, but that was still half a second more than they showed of anything Fockers-related.
7:06pm: It’s getting quasi-racist / borderline xenophobic in this speech. Who wrote this for Bobby D.? Did he not get final cut?
7:11pm:
Emma Stone looks nice this evening. I’m happy she’s in the next Spider-Man film. She’s got rare verve, and I’m not talking about the Harry’s Law kind.
7:13pm: Megan Fox introduces The Tourist and everyone acts like they aren’t completely ashamed.
7:15pm: Best Director Goes to David Fincher for The Social Network
7:17pm: Ciao, momentum for The Fighter. I enjoyed our time together.
7:19pm: Best Televised Comedy or Musical Goes to Glee
7:20pm: When they go to commercial all the stars jump up and try to insta-mingle. I imagine Johnny Depp just fires off like twenty jokes in a row.
7:25pm: Best Lead Actor in a Comedy or Musical Goes to Paul Giamatti for Barney’s Version
7:31pm: They have decided to just show Kathy Bates holding a revolver at her desk from here on out. Seriously, you all need to watch Harry’s Law or NBC’s next move is a bake sale!
7:34pm: Best Lead Actress in a Drama Goes to Natalie Portman for Black Swan
7:38pm: Nice Gervais burn on Tim Allen there.
7:39pm: Best Comedy or Musical Goes to The Kids Are All Right
7:40pm: Table 114 callback! It’s practically a meme at this point.
7:43pm: My rudimentary math suggests Colin Firth and The Social Network are the only winners yet to be called.
7:49pm: Best Lead Actor in a Drama Goes to Colin Firth for The King’s Speech
7:55pm: Best Picture Goes to The Social Network
7:58pm: And of course, the producers of The Social Network get played right off. You couldn’t have scripted a better ending!
