With her husband off at war, Dorothy struggles to raise their three young children alone in the Australian countryside. When two Italian POWs Alfredo and Joesph, come to live with Dorothy to assist her with the homestead's upkeep, Dorothy falls deeply in love with Alfredo though neither feel that they can act on their feelings.
