Who's Up, Who's Down: Darren Aronofsky, Daniel Craig
Warner Bros. Pictures
UP: Darren Aronofsky, Daniel Craig, Tony Romo
Kudos to Darren Aronofsky for finally, finally getting The Fountain released in theatres. It has been a long and sometimes rocky road, but Aronofsky was finally successful in bringing this intensely personal film to the big screen. I first heard about the project back in 2001 when it was simply an untitled sci-fi flick he was developing. Brad Pitt was set to star, and then Cate Blanchett jumped on board, and then the budget went soaring, and then the project died. Not unlike the film's theme, there was a rebirth, this time with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz starring. This is a beautiful film, a poem of death and creation that may not entirely work (I have to see this again ... and maybe again again), and it is almost certainly doomed at the box office. But it's always nice to see a real artist duke it out and get his fair shot with audiences (more likely on DVD). Also up is Daniel Craig, who proved nay-sayers wrong with his critically acclaimed turn as 007 in Casino Royale. Even more important, the film scored big at the box office. It may be the best James Bond movie made since I've been born. Believe it: He is the best Bond since Connery. Finally, props to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. The guy was named starter about 5 weeks ago and has been fantastic, putting his team in contention for the division. As a New York Giants fan, this pains me immensely. Just when it seemed he couldn't get any luckier, though, the guy supposedly got a call from Jessica Simpson after he stated she was his dream date. Now I know there are conflicting reports as to whom Simpson has got her eye on (the latest rumor is she's giving that overrated softy John Mayer another shot), but just getting your name in the gossip rags with Jessica Simpson means you are flying high, my friend. DOWN: Michael Richards, Paris Hilton, Stephen DorffMichael "Kramer" Richards, as everyone already knows, had a really bad week. He gave a pretty heartfelt and effective (I thought) apology this week on Letterman, but he still has some serious pub work ahead of him. Bro, keep the N-Bombs where they belong: nowhere. Oh, and you better believe those annoying hecklers who received the racial slurs are going to be suing him for some ridiculous reason. They've already hired an attorney. Ah, the legal system! Apparently I'm not the only one who is physically sickened by Paris Hilton's music. The heiress famous for being famous got on stage to lip sync one of her songs and (according to singer Joshua Radin) proceeded to blow chunks everywhere. It seems Hilton was in her usual classy form downing Grey Goose like it was Aquafina. Who said alcohol can't lead to a masterwork? Last but not least, the regrettable Stephen Dorff. I've always kind of liked Dorff as an actor, so it is a shame he seems to be a real dunce. It looks like Dorff lost his ex-girlfriend, May Anderson, to Jackass's Steve-O. Dorf then apparently left a death threat on Steve-O's answering machine, which Steve-O has been nice enough to share with the entire world. First off, Dorff, how in the world do you lose your girlfriend to Steve-O? Second, you had to know homeboy was going to share your message with everyone. The guy dressed up as a zebra on the African plains, provoking a lion attack. He jumped on a great white shark. He has snorted wasabi (twice!). Do you really think he is afraid to play a freaking answering machine message? Most Popular Stories
