What2Watch: More Naked Truth From Lifetime
You can't celebrate inner beauty without a nude photo shoot.
Lifetime
Carson Kressley didn't radiate a warm, fuzzy attitude all that often in his days on Queer Eye, since straight men pretty much deserve all the style criticism they receive. But his new role as Best Gay Friend requires a gentler touch that American women aren't getting from most of the guys they know. Kressley's salute to the beauty that resides in women who aren't runway-fit, How To Look Good Naked, returns tonight (Lifetime, 10 PM) for a second season of consciousness raising and tasteful nudity. The point Kressley tries to get across is that women should not let their inability to live up to a perfect physical ideal prevent them from making the best use of what they do have. Tonight's subject is Kelly, who believes she lost her sex appeal after giving birth. One question about the second season is what would become of what had been the climactic moment of every episode: the request to test the new body image by posing nude. This was a surprise in Season One, but will now be expected. I suppose another way of looking at it is that the show will now be casting solely from among those who know they're going to be asked to drop trou and are OK with it, so no complaints. America's Got Talent (NBC, 9 PM): This show still leads the summer ratings, but at some point they're going to need to pick up the pace. Right now, it looks like it's neck-and-neck between the novelty dancers and the not-eligible-for-American Idol singers as to who might come out on top. Big Brother 10 (CBS, 9 PM): It's a strange season of Big Brother when the young men start turning on each other right out of the gate, since typically they try to team up and run the house. Jessie, who was pretty self-important anyway, looks to have become a totally humorless pill since becoming Head of Household, and has nominated Steven and Dan. The women are sitting pretty, but we'll get ugly behavior from them soon enough, I'm sure. Deadliest Catch (Discovery, 9 PM): As always, there is tension between the desire to grab that last little bit from the sea in order to meet quota, and the necessity to get back to port before ice makes the ships completely unmanageable. Things are especially bad aboard Time Bandit, which deals with a crew member's mistake. Must Love Kids (TLC, 9 PM): There's likely an audience for this dating show featuring three single moms, although I spent most of the first episode feeling a little bit embarrassed for the mid-30ish to early 40ish guys who were their suitors. Now I know what I look like trying to impress a woman, and it's even worse than I had feared. Tonight, the women go on a group outing with their remaining prospects, trying to narrow the field a little more before we get to the real fun part: introducing the men to the children. Road Tasted with the Neelys (Food Network, 9:30 PM): Some jobs just seem too good to be true, and Pat and Gina Neely have one: going on the road to sample the characteristic food products of a particular area. Food Network, I'm here! I'll eat for you! In tonight's debut, the destination is Minneapolis, with trips to a beekeeping farm, a local barbecue establishment, a dairy, and a candy store specializing in 'smores made with whiskey. Liquor is quicker. Flipping Out (Bravo, 10 PM): On his latest remodeling project, Jeff meets a little girl who drives him as crazy as he drives the rest of the world, and the newly promoted Chris K. has difficulty with the increasing pressure. The end of both house manager Chris's employment with Jeff and his marriage to Jenni was awfully unemotional, suggesting the guy has major issues. Watching a marriage fall apart is a little too much reality for me. Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel (HBO, 10 PM): We're moving into Olympic season and the stories this month reflect that, with pieces about the toll that gymnastics takes on growing bodies, and about the dangers of one of the more genteel Olympic sports, equestrian eventing. And because anyone who has ever worked in New York is presumed inherently fascinating to the rest of America, a profile of has-been coaching legend Bill Parcells. The Cleaner (A&E, 10 PM): A mom insists to William that her daughter has a drug problem, despite numerous clean drug tests. He investigates and finds the girl is actually involved with transporting heroin from Mexico, a job that becomes even more dangerous when her boss believes some of his supply to be missing. Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood (Oxygen, 10 PM): Renovations on the house are put off while Tori deals with her problematic pregnancy, and the couple also begins the stressful work of finding a preschool for their son. There's not a chance in the world that preschool will be any more of a problem than anything else has been for Tori in life given what her surname is, but a lot of people are taken with the whole "they're just like us" pose.
