What2Watch: Brothers & Sisters Add To, Subtract From The Family
My Morning Jacket on SNL and Survivor's finale extravaganza.
ABC
Brothers & Sisters seems to be settling in for a nice multi-year run on Sunday nights, with a large enough cast to space out everyone's workload and provide good variety and opportunity for character develop.m.ent. However, fans seem to be divided over the newest plot twist, which has Rebecca (Emily VanCamp) discovering she is not the biological daughter of William Walker, and thus no longer the half-sibling of the title characters. This has opened the door for Justin (Dave Annable) to realize he has a crush on her, which is disturbing for all concerned, including a good many viewers. Sunday's season finale (ABC, 10 p.m.) has a major emotional milestone with the commitment ceremony of Kevin and Scotty, a new element for a network series to explore with major characters. Also, Saul goes public with a big revelation, and Rebecca's status becomes public also. One hopes that the Rebecca/Justin subplot was simply a way for the producers to acknowledge that VanCamp and Annable have some chemistry, but that both characters will agree that nothing good can come of this, and that all will work to pretend it never happened. In fact, given that Rebecca doesn't have much of a logical reason to still be on the show, it might be time to explore giving the excellent VanCamp a series of her own. Ghost Whisperer (CBS, tonight, 8 p.m.): Melinda looks into a 30 year-old murder case prosecuted by her father to see if she can learn anything about his disappearance. TV's All Time Funniest (ABC, 8 p.m.): You don't often see three-hour specials these days unless the words "I want to thank the academy" are mentioned at some point, but this is a look at some of the funniest characters in TV history, with winners in eight categories. Crossroads (CMT, 9 p.m.): Maroon 5, a group that's quickly becoming as inescapable on TV as the Black Eyed Peas used to be, performs along with Sara Evans, as the soulful rockers and the straightlaced country chick tackle each other's music. Is Evans really going to sing the racy "This Love"? Doctor Who (SciFi, tonight, 9 p.m.): The doctor and Donna meet a race of evil Ood. I always said no gOod could come from Ood. Man Vs. Wild (Discovery, tonight, 9 p.m.): Bear deals with the ultrahot, ultradry Namibian desert. I really hope we don't see urine used in any way other than nature intended. Moonlight (CBS, tonight, 9 p.m.): Mick deals with the kidnapping of the grandson of his old war buddy -- the war in question being World War II. Battlestar Galactica (SciFi, tonight, 10 p.m.): The Demetrius is rattled by the implications of the mutiny and Anders takes action; the rest of the "four" seem to be unraveling as well. Numb3rs(CBS, tonight, 10 p.m.): An apparently routine drive-by involving a young rap star turns out to have wider implications. I can't say I ever expected Three Six Mafia to pop into the Epps brothers' world, but such is the excitement of primetime TV. Celine (WE, Saturday, 8 p.m.): It's a biopic about Celine Dion. Any further commentary would be utterly superfluous. Groomer Has It (Animal Planet, Saturday, 9 p.m.): The groomers learn a little bit about first aid, including canine CPR; cats, always the calmest and most cooperative of animals, are brought in for grooming. Mom, Dad, and Her(Lifetime, Saturday, 9 p.m.): A sullen teenage girl has to deal with a new step.m.other. Melora Hardin, not the most sympathetic of characters on The Office, is the step.m.om. Robin Hood (BBC America, Saturday, 9 p.m.): Robin learns that Gisborne has been testing indestructible armor, but the boy who passed along the info is then captured by the sheriff. Saturday Night Live (NBC, Saturday, 11:30 p.m.): Shia LaBoeuf is the guest host (a rare if not unprecedented second hosting stint this season); My Morning Jacket is the musical act. I wonder if Amy Poehler is experiencing My Morning Sickness? Celebrecadabra (VH1, Sunday, 11 a.m. and 9 p.m.): The amateur magicians must perform for a tanked-up crowd of college kids. No one ever said big time show biz would be easy. America's Favorite Mom (NBC, Sunday, 7 p.m.): An online vote will pick the winner of the honor from nominees in five categories, with a $250,000 prize. Donny and Marie Osmond host, so expect to be heart-warmed until you can hardly stand it. Everybody Hates Chris (CW, Sunday, 8 p.m.): With money tight, Chris buys Rochelle a cheap, counterfeit version of her favorite perfume for Mother's Day, but (go figure) there are some unpleasant consequences. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC, Sunday, 8 p.m.): Ty and company work to make a home handicapped-accessible so that a father injured in an accident can again live with the rest of his family. Survivor: Micronesia (CBS, Sunday, 8 p.m.): The semiannual two-hour finale followed by the one-hour reunion special, which will presumably focus less on the winner than on the biggest collection of male losers gathered in one place since the euchre games in my dorm room. Erik gave up his immunity just one tribal council away from the end so he could get "redemption"? Even after watching it and then sleeping on it, I still can't believe it happened. Erik, if anybody ever sends you an e-mail from Nigeria, please delete immediately. The Simpsons (Fox, Sunday, 8 p.m.): Lance Armstrong and Glenn Close are guest voices as death invades the Simpsons' world. No joke. Aliens In America (Fox, Sunday, 8:30 p.m.): As head of Students Against Drunk Driving, Raja confounds expectations by choosing Justin as a pretend "funeral victim" rather than the most popular kid in school. King of the Hill (Fox, Sunday, 8:30 p.m.): Hank decides to build a boat for the Arlen Regatta with Bobby rather than with his friends, and faces down an embarrassing phobia he's kept secret so far. Deliver Me (Discovery Health, Sunday, 9 p.m.): A special Mother's Day episode, in which the ob/gyns deal with a cancer survivor whose fetus looks too big for natural delivery, and a dangerous amount of bleeding from another expectant mom. Desperate Housewives (ABC, Sunday, 9 p.m.): Carlos and Gaby find more reason to distrust their tenant Ellie; Bree and Edie battle; Susan deals with her mother-in-law. Be kind, Susan -- it's Mother's Day. The Game (CW, Sunday, 9 p.m.): Rick Fox gives Tasha more than advice; Melanie's plans for a romantic weekend with Jerome hit a snag; Malik wants Robin Givens back. The Tudors (Showtime, Sunday, 9 p.m.): Viewers say goodbye to one queen and meet another; Cromwell takes new measures to weaken the Catholic Church and enhance Henry's coffers. American Dad (Fox, Sunday, 9:30): With a new lease on life following an accident, Stan decides to dig for buried treasure underneath his house. Ax Men (History, Sunday, 10 p.m.): Deadlines look impossible for the Gustafsons; worker shortages are an issue for one crew; a serious mistake on another crew threatens lives. Keeping Up With the Kardashians (E!, Sunday, 10 p.m.): Kim's sexy, and allegedly private, calendar for Reggie Bush becomes public knowledge. How many times can one family be shocked by the fact that appearing naked in front of a camera might be interesting to other people? Viva Hollywood (VH1, Sunday, 10 p.m.): Has there ever been a TV series that was not improved by an appearance from Charo? The world's greatest entertainer puts the would-be stars through their song-and-dance paces. Talk Sex With Sue Johanson (Oxygen, Monday, midnight): It's the final episode ever for the 70-something Johanson, who is hopefully retiring to get some of that good lovin'. She'll spend her final hour counting down the top ten sex toys of the year. If there's ever been a job where you look forward to getting swag, she had it. Most Popular Stories
