Battlestar Galactica reaches its half-season finale tonight (SciFi, 10 p.m.), and indications are that it won't be back to wrap up the story of the colonists and the Cylons until early 2009, a wait that seems unimaginably long right now. Some fans have expressed mild disappointment with the current season, feeling that everything has been a bit too slow coming on the heels of the major revelations at the conclusion of last season. Those concerns may no longer be valid after tonight's episode, which may leave viewers wondering where the show can go from here. The dramatic highlight of the episode is a standoff between D'Anna and the base ship on one side, holding hostages including Laura, and acting president Lee Adama and Galactica on the other side. The Cylons want the four and have ways of persuading the colonials to give them up. As has been the case all along, the members of the four have varying attitudes about their true selves and their possible discovery. It all leads to a climax that is both thrilling and devastating, and will no doubt inspire massive amounts of discussion about what might come next. Can You Duet (CMT, tonight 8 and 9 p.m.): This series is running its final two episodes back-to-back, with the final four going at 8 and then an elimination leading to the final round at 9. This show reminded me that there sure are some good looking women in country music. F'n MTV Premieres (MTV, 8 p.m.): The title of this new show is edgy-stupid, which also describes the program's host, Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy. The format is simply performances (this week by Fall Out Boy proteges Panic at the Disco) mixed with some videos, but the real news here is that MTV is actually running a music show in prime time. Greensburg (Discovery, tonight 8 p.m.): A Kansas town is wiped out by a tornado in 2007, and attempts are made to rebuild adhering to green principles. THS Investigates (E!, 8 p.m.): A look at people who have both won big and lost big in Las Vegas. If it's at all honest, one segment is going to be noticeably longer than the other. Doctor Who (SciFi, tonight 9 p.m.): This episode is inspired by something that actually happened: the brief and never explained disappearance of novelist Agatha Christie in 1926. The doctor goes back in time and comes up with a theory. Meerkat Manor (Animal Planet, tonight 9 p.m.): There's a new overcrowding of males in the Aztec group. Yeah, who wants a lot of guys around? Groomer Has It (Animal Planet, Saturday 9 p.m.): The groomers are given mobile trucks to operate on house calls, but the trucks aren't in ideal shape. NYC: Tornado Terror (SciFi, Saturday 9 p.m.): A few weeks ago we had some movie about tornadoes hitting the Northwest, and now it's a film about tornadoes threatening New York City. What, it's not interesting enough to see twisters in places where people really worry about them? Look for the "tornadoes hit Vegas" film in, oh, August or so. Robin Hood (BBC America, Saturday 9 p.m.): Robin's plan to seize the Great Pact of Nottingham is foiled by Allan's gabbing; Marian's father becomes involved in the Pact hunt after his escape. Dana Carvey: Squatting Monkeys Tell No Lies (HBO, Saturday 10 p.m.): I don't even think of Carvey as having much of a stand-up act these days, so this is a welcome surprise. This performance in Santa Rosa, Cal. features many of his trademark impressions. U.S. Open: Final Round (NBC, Sunday 3 p.m. Eastern): They're golfing at Torrey Pines in San Diego, so the action will extend well into prime time and could go past the scheduled end time of 9 p.m. Eastern. Tony Awards (CBS, Sunday 8 p.m.): Whoopi Goldberg hosts the preeminent awards in theater. The big contenders this year appear to be the musical In the Heights, the play August: Osage County, and the revival of South Pacific. Stephen Sondheim will receive what certainly seems like a long overdue lifetime achievement award. Bridezillas (WE, Sunday 9 p.m.): A bride who left most of her wedding details in the hands of an overwhelmed friend grumbles about the ceremony as it is taking place; a woman asks for a new wedding dress to replace the one she's gotten too big for. Design Star (HGTV, Sunday 9 p.m.): The first challenge of the season is a big one: designing five rooms in a lakefront house. Gene Simmons Family Jewels (A&E, Sunday 9, 9:30, and 10 p.m.): Two episodes lead into a Simmons roast at 10. First off at 9, the tale of Gene's brief appearance on Celebrity Apprentice coincides with Shannon and Tracy recovering from cosmetic surgery; at 9:30, the ladies wonder if a roast might make Gene humble. Such a roast would have to be a LOT longer than 90 minutes. Ice Road Truckers (History, Sunday 9 p.m.): Major malfunctions threaten the oil sites and the trucks supplying them; an attempt is made to start a truck that hasn't run in four years; Drew, who decided not to venture onto the ice road, gets a very different kind of job. Independent Lens (PBS, 9 Sunday 9 p.m.): Deep Water tells the bizarre story of Donald Crowhurst, who entered the world's first around-the-world solo boat race in 1968 and radioed false reports of his progress while he was in fact falling well behind the others. Iron Chef America (Food Network, Sunday 9 p.m.): Michael Symon, newly named host of Dinner: Impossible, is challenged by April Bloomfield. Law & Order: Criminal Intent (USA, Sunday 9 p.m.): The list of suspects is suitably large when a gossip columnist winds up dead; Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson) is back on the job. NBA Finals: Game Five (ABC, Sunday 9 p.m. Eastern): The Celtics could end it all right here, thus bringing an end to Boston's agonizing eight-month wait between sports titles. TV Land Awards (TV Land, Sunday 9 p.m.): Vanessa Williams hosts this salute to the sort of classic TV that is this network's stock in trade. Jonathan Winters and Garry Marshall are among the honorees. When We Left Earth: The NASA Missions (Discovery, Sunday 9 p.m.): The Apollo program begins in tragedy but puts men on the moon before the end of the 1960s; Skylab is the first attempt to keep astronauts in space for protracted periods. Army Wives (Lifetime, Sunday 10 p.m.): Roxy assumes care of a wounded Betty; Pamela wonders what Chase is hiding from her; Joan struggles with her decision. Britain's Worst Teeth (BBC America, Sunday 10 p.m.): Four young Britons describe how lousy teeth impact their lives. If they can possibly do this show without Amy Winehouse, you know the situation has to be bad. Denise Richards: It's Complicated (E!, Sunday 10 p.m.): Denise mediates a (bleeping) conflict between her (bleeping) assistants and tries to add some (bleeping) humor to her life. In Plain Sight (USA, Sunday 10 p.m.): Weddingphobic Mary must pose as a maid of honor to protect a con artist whose presence in the program didn't stop her from planning a gala wedding. Rate My Space (HGTV, Sunday 10 p.m.): This new show provides design help to homeowners who got low ratings on the show's Web site. The premiere finds designer Angelo Surmelis assisting a couple who want a Tuscan look in their great room. The Next Food Network Star (Food Network, Sunday 10 p.m.): Contestants have to do something innovative with russet potatoes; Martha Stewart serves as the judge when the contenders invent original food products. Living Lohan (E!, Sunday 10:30 p.m.): Ali wants a puppy, but Dina is opposed. Oh, let the girl be a girl! Most Popular Stories
