This Week on Project Runway, Heidi Tries to Make Levis Fashion Forward

Ever wondered how you can turn your boring Levis into fashion gold? Project Runway will tell you how!

With only seven designers left at the beginning of this week’s Project Runway, Heidi Klum announced there would be no more immunity given for winning challenges. New York Fashion Week is right around the corner, so it’s time to get bloody. A machete, a small hatchet, and several switchblades were randomly handed out to contestants before they were led into the city’s sewers and told to not come back until they had collected enough human skin to create an iconic leather look.

Okay, not really. Instead, they were charged with creating an iconic denim look that captured the spirit and originality of the Levis brand. Certainly not as cool as pulling a Buffalo Bill on each other – one imagines Chris could generate enough leather to make pants, too – but, hey, jean jackets are cool, too.

After being taken out to a Port Authority warehouse for God knows what reason (read: dramatic effect), our valiant designers were armed with laundry bags instead of weapons and told to stuff said bags with as many Levis products as they could. I imagine this was done so that we could watch tubby Chris try to run across an empty building in a race obviously designed to discriminate against him by a bunch of skinny, beautiful people. He should sue. Back at the studio, the designers were then given a whopping day and some change to put together their iconic looks. Sweet P, for example, decided to make a wedding dress because, you know, denim makes a suitable substitute for satin taffeta (she later decided to just make a regular dress). Jillian and Victorya (who seemed to be stealing Jillian’s design from the previous week) opted to make trench coats. Rami pointed out that he was raised in Jerusalem and so doesn’t understand the iconic American look of Levis, so he set out to make something a little more fashion forward and edgy. Strange, I didn’t know Levis were only worn in America. Couldn’t they once be used as currency in Eastern Europe? Seriously, who doesn’t know about Levis?

It also became clear just how frustrated the designers were with Christian, whose incessant bitchiness and, as Jillian points, immaturity are affecting everyone. Chris quipped, “Give him a bottle and send him to bed.” Christian brings it on himself, too; given, everyone knows Ricky doesn’t have what it takes to win the competition, but Christian actually comes out and says Ricky should’ve been sent home last week instead of Kit since he only does boring, unoriginal work. Confidence is one thing, but, as I’ve stated from the beginning, this kid needs to be bitch slapped two or three times before he learns how to behave like a big boy.

In the end, Christian’s arrogance came back and bit him in the ass when Ricky unexpectedly won the challenge by implementing his lingerie experience to create an impeccably fitted dress. Rami and Sweet P were in the running for the top spot, too, while Christ, Jillian, and Victory fell into the bottom three. Amazingly, though, Chris’ shoddy design didn’t land him in the bottom two. Jillian, who had again taken on too much and failed to properly finish her dress, had shot herself in the foot. Still, not even her overambitious design could outsuck Victorya’s, which looked, as Michael Kors said, like a reconnoitered jean jacket with a party skirt glued to it. I wish I could say I’d miss Vic, but I never liked her control-freak, secretly backstabbing ways.
