The Verdict: The New Transformers 2 Trailer, and Swine Flu Takes Down Wolverine and Star Trek

Plus: Russell Brand to remake ... Drop Dead Fred? And goodbye to Maude.

Transformers 2: There Will Be Robots
On Thursday Yahoo Movies unveiled the new trailer, where Shia LaBeouf goes away to college and tries to hold on to Megan Fox by talking to her on his webcam. Yeah, good luck with that. Good call on the Pointer Sisters tune too. Next time throw in some Earth, Wind, and Fire to really get the kids going. Oh, there were also some big robots.
Verdict: Personally, I thought the first Transformers was awful, and the sequel looks like more of the same plus an extra serving of shtick. Maybe if they could get a Hyundai to play Shia. Then at least he wouldn't look like Fox's creepy little brother.

Swine Flu Kills Mexico Premieres
The global maybe-pandemic derailed the opening of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in Mexico City and now Star Trek has been postponed too, infuriating millions of Mexican Trekkies, who rushed the Plaza de la Constitución with their phasers set to "Complain." (I actually have no idea if there are tons of Trek fans in Mexico.)
Verdict: My theory is finally confirmed: Prequels are hazardous to your health.

Universal to Remake Drop Dead Fred; Hell Gets Three Inches of Snow
The atrocious 1991 Phoebe Cates movie about a troublemaking imaginary friend bombed at the box office and got reviews like "recommended only for people who think nose-picking is funny." And that was Leonard Maltin, the guy who loved He's Just Not That Into You. Now Universal is set on a remake starring Russell Brand, who I actually think is funny, as Fred.
Verdict: What the hell. Brand's also remaking the Liza Minnelli vehicle Arthur, so I have a feeling I won't be saying "who I actually think is funny" much longer.

Golden Girl Bea Arthur Dies
This one might be a shock to people who didn't know she was still alive, but the 86-year-old actress died last Saturday of cancer. Arthur shook up television as Maude, one of the most controversial characters in TV history, and kept slinging the funny into the '80s with The Golden Girls, which proved once and for all that old ladies are dirty, too. She won a Tony and two Emmys, and she was actually in the infamous Star Wars Christmas Special.
Verdict: A very funny lady who will be sorely missed. Here she is, singing with the Mos Eisley Cantina Band.
