The Verdict: Mickey Rourke Takes on Iron Man, and Jackie Chan to Star in ... The Karate Kid?

Plus, Watchmen footage from the '40s and hey, remember Moonlighting? Didn't think so.

From The Wrestler to the Big Time, Again
Mickey Rourke's comeback is official: he's being considered for a superhero movie. The Hollywood Reporter says that he's in talks to play the Crimson Dynamo, a Russian arms dealer with a nuclear-powered suit of his own, in Iron Man 2. (It also reports that Sam Rockwell, one of my favorite actors, is in as Justin Hammer.)
Verdict: "Serious" actors don't always do well in superhero spectaculars (look at Marlon Brando in Superman). But Rourke's particular tough guy madness would be a perfect fit, and I'll watch Sam Rockwell in anything, even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Jackie Chan Ready to Wax on, Wax Off
Entertainment Weekly says Chan is set to play Mr. Miyagi in a remake of The Karate Kid starring Will Smith's 10-year-old son, directed by the visionary genius behind The Pink Panther 2. Maybe Jackie's hoping to score an Oscar nomination like Pat Morita did the first time around. Everything in those two sentences sounds like a lie, but it's all true.
Verdict: What. The. Hell.

Watchmen, the Early Years
One of the groundbreaking things about Alan Moore's Watchmen was its interest in the history of its characters, and of masked vigilantes in general. So this behind-the-scenes video of Zack Snyder's set, showing the classic 1940 lineup of the Minutemen, is like geek-nip to me (courtesy of the LA Times; scroll down).
Verdict: Getting my hopes up is a guaranteed path to major disappointment. But I'm sorry, I just can't help it.

Keanu Reeves to Star in Big-Screen Cowboy Bebop
The animated series was huge in Japan and a big hit in translation for Cartoon Network, but not every cartoon survives the jump to live action. Do we really want to watch Keanu play a bounty hunter flying around a future universe that looks a lot like the Old West?
Verdict: Three words: Speed Racer, dude. (OK, two more: Serenity, dude.)

Ready for a Moonlighting Reunion? You Know, That Show. I Think They Were Detectives.
Immortal gossip vampire Liz Smith says that the creator of Moonlighting is angling to get Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd back together for a twentieth anniversary TV movie. Mmm, nothing like sexual tension between 60-year-olds.
Verdict: Yikes, this sounds terrible. I mean, I'm sure Booger could use the work, but do people even remember this show any more? (See, you don't even get the Booger reference, do you?)
