Twitter continues to grow by leaps and bounds, reporting 9.3 million unique users in March, more than doubling their numbers from February. Oh my goodness. So much has happened this week on Twitter, from Jessica Simpson joining up to Ashton Kutcher hitting an all-time follower high to the highly anticipated first tweet of Oprah Winfrey. It was a banner week for Twitter, which means there's plenty of funny and thoughtful tweets for us to take a look at.

Oprah Winfrey has started an account and as of today, Friday, will be sending her very first tweet live from her show. As of this writing, she already has 60,000 followers before sending a single message. When the people who watch her show are introduced to Twitter, it is anticipated that the site will see slow load times as thousands of new accounts are opened.

Most importantly, Ashton Kutcher was the first person to make it to ONE MILLION Twitter followers. His epic race against CNN was well documented, culminating in a moment of sweet victory. The interesting thing about this is Kutcher has made the race into a battle between old media, the gatekeepers of information, and what he feels is the new media, with Twitter falling front and center in that fight for freedom of knowledge. In his live streaming video where he counted down to a million late Thursday night, he said that he hopes Twitter will bring people into closer contact with celebrities, and remove some of the frenzy, saying, "I'll give you a picture for free, we don't need TMZ at the bottom of my hill." A victory for Kutcher is a sign of the times to come, when information is quickly shared and consumed by every day people.
