Does this sound like you? You've broken out all your fall and winter clothes, even purchased some new pieces, but no matter how many times you try to mix and match, your closet is still stuck in 2007. Don't worry; I've been there, and luckily for you I've found the solution: the statement necklace.

With just a small investment you can solve all your winter-wear woes and add weight to your wardrobe. It wasn't hard to see this trend coming a mile away. After making appearances on the runways of Vera Wang, Burberry and Dries Van Noten, the large necklace has shown up in a variety of styles. And because many designers have welcomed the trend, there's something for everyone. Whether you prefer metal or gems, ribbons or chains, you're sure to find the necklace just for you.

Celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively, Taylor Momsen and Ginnifer Goodwin have shown us how to pull off this daring trend. Providing a neutral backdrop for your necklace will help keep the attention on the bling, so opt for solid colors when choosing your outfit. Also, keep you hair out of the way so it doesn't get tangled. If you find yourself stopping on the sidewalk to pull your hair out of your necklace, the trend is wearing you. Although there's a lot of diversity within the statement necklace trend, I haven't seen any statement chokers, so keep the length between the collarbone and navel. And lastly, do not wear other jewelry when wearing your necklace. It's not called a statement necklace for nothing.

If you spent your last dime on new leather boots, this trend is the perfect DIY project. Dig up some old necklaces, ribbons and chains, and get creative. You can even add brooches or string-rings and bracelets -- see the Dries Van Noten fall show for inspiration. All you really need to keep in mind is: Go Big or Go Home!
