Tori Spelling Quits 90210; We Blame Shannen Doherty

Tori Spelling won't be returning to The CW spinoff of her father's beloved show, after all.

The 90210 spinoff is still two weeks away, but already the behind-the-scenes drama has begun! Tori Spelling, whose father created the original Beverly Hills 90210, has dropped out of The CW series, reportedly because she learned that co-stars Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth were making more money for reprising their roles.

Is this fiscally responsible? After all, Tori now has two mouths to feed, since she just popped out baby No. 2 with hubby Dean McDermott. Oxygen can't be paying her that much for her reality show, because, well, it's Oxygen and no one had ever heard of it before Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood. And if you're one of the 1.4 million people who watch that show, you know that Tori just bought a house that's way out of her price range. Some people think Tori has tons of money because her father did, but those people are wrong. Don't believe me? Read her book. Better yet, buy it 'cause Tori needs to get paid!

Meantime, it's a mutual lovefest among the younger cast members who make up the new class of West Beverly High -- so far. But Melrose Place alum Rob Estes, who plays a Jim Walsh-type as a father of twins who transfer to West Beverly, has been through this type of thing before. He told me at the CBS party last month: "The question is, are the kids prepared? ... At some point, they're going to be fighting for [magazine] covers and exposure." (Somewhere, Blake Lively and Leighton Meester are saying, "Amen!")

Then again, this group seems a bit more collected than their predecessors. At the same party, I chatted with AnnaLynne McCord (who plays rich girl Naomi Clark), who said, "I don't drink, I don't go out. Enjoy your 20s, but do it in moderation." What fun is that? Shannen Doherty was getting into bar fights, marrying and divorcing men and abusing her newfound fame at that age. Kids today!
