Survivor: But The Gross Food Isn't Supposed To Be Cute!
Survivor this week gave us gross food and a slapstick scramble for the immunity idol.
CBS
Last week on Survivor, Peih-Gee and Jaime went from irritating to despicable by throwing the immunity challenge, and some kind-hearted producer gave the contestants their swimwear. This week, during the reward challenge, Zhan Hu’s attempts to communicate with Sherea and Frosti fell completely flat, convincing Jaime and Peih-Gee that they need to win immunity this time, after all. Ha! I do feel bad for Erik, though. He might be a virgin, but he’s still kind of been screwed by his teammates. The reward? Tea and some kind of muddy looking baths at the “Charmin Teahouse.” I can’t wait to see what ridiculous product placement they come up with next. Everybody seemed to enjoy it, anyway. CBS Pixel Guy, who’s probably been bored since Dave left, had quite a project this week as James decided to use the open air shower instead of the tub. Todd, who I still think is one of the craftiest players ever, convinced James to give him the immunity clue, sparking the most hilarious attempt to get the hidden immunity idol since Yau Man kissed the turtle. Um, Todd? You’ve seen every episode. Remember how Yau Man had Earl lure everybody away from camp so he could get the idol without anybody seeing him? Did you not think that was a good idea? As a result of Todd and Amanda trying to get the idol down with the rest of the tribe watching, Frosti saw the writing on the back identifying it as the idol, solidifying his status with Fei Long. He’s in a sweet position now, since he can still get back in with Zhan Hu if he wants to, also. Immunity this week marked the return of the Gross Food Challenge. I think this challenge is exciting, but I usually do some sympathetic gagging, so I kind of have a love/hate relationship with it. One of the things I like about it is that it doesn’t require physical strength (not the usual kind, anyway), so it’s often surprising to see who does well. Courtney was the first to really choke (literally and figuratively) on some eel. Now, while I’m not big on eel, I know lots of people who eat it all the time as sushi. She had it easy compared to Amanda and Erik, who had to eat adorable little baby turtles, and Denise and James, who had to eat little curled up baby chickens. Denise tried to attack her chicken with gusto. Literally. I think at one point she actually yelled “Get in there!” at her chicken. Although I don’t like it when people give up in challenges, I can hardly blame her, since I could barely even watch. In the end, Zhan Hu turned out to be the best at eating icky stuff. This messed with Todd’s plan to have James retrieve the hidden immunity idol at that camp and present it after voting, but that might be an option in the future. Back at Fei Long, it seemed like a no-brainer that Sherea would go. Courtney’s distaste for Jean-Robert prompted her to try to muster some votes for Jean-Robert instead, demonstrating her continued failure to understand the game (“He doesn’t liiiike me”). I don’t really get Courtney. She’s so blunt, but at the same time, she’s kind of a crybaby. Todd and Amanda disagreed about whether it would be better to keep Jean-Robert because he’s part of their original tribe, or give in to Courtney to keep her happy and avoid seeming like power players. In the end, Zhan Hu’s original members stuck together and Sherea went home, leaving Jean-Robert to play another hand. Next week: MERGE! Oh, and Sherea thinks she was voted out because she was a threat. It’s nice that her self-esteem didn’t suffer. * * * Amy Kane spends as much quality time with her television as possible, when she's not busy at her day job as a cube dweller. Most Popular Stories
