Here we go. One of the greatest geek arguments of all time and I'm about to step into the crosshairs. Star WARS versus Star TREK. Now as a big lover of both series, I have to come out and say that I am truly neutral when it comes to these masterpieces of modern science fiction. Both have a special place in my heart. But when it comes to specific catagories, there is always a clear winner. Let's see who comes out on top.

Best Trilogy: Star Wars. While Star Trek is actually a series of 10 movies, movies two, three, and four are the only ones that tell a single, cohesive story and actually have a beginning, a middle, and an end. And while many people have issues with Return of the Jedi, Ewoks are nowhere near as annoying as young Spock or Kirk's obnoxious son from Search for Spock.

Best Prequel: Star Trek. When we walked out of our screening of Star Trek, someone remarked that this was exactly the kind of experience they dreamed about The Phantom Menace being. Instead, The Phantom Menace is the highest grossing disaster of all time. Seriously, find a worse film in the top 20.

Best Single Film: Star Trek. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The only other film that comes close is The Empire Strikes Back.

Worst Theatrical Film: Star Trek. Star Trek: Insurrection. It makes Star Trek: Nemesis look watchable by comparison and will make you beg, kick, and scream for Jar Jar Binks. The entire thing feels like a glorified episode of the Next Generation television series, without actually being as good as an episode of the Next Generation television series.

Worst Film Period: Star Wars. Battle for Endor, the film that made even young children hate Ewoks. I think it was when the Ewoks could suddenly speak English that the series really took a turn for the worse.

Best Animated Series: Star Wars. Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003). Genndy Tartakovsky's brilliant three-season animated series was the first (and only) time that Star Wars actually felt like it did in the original trilogy. Say what you will about how pretty the recent series is; it is nowhere near as consistant as the original.

Best Legacy: Star Wars. The "holy" trilogy is really something special, and while the prequels may be awful, Star Trek has had at least five cinematic failures and no less than two terrible television shows.

Best Future: Star Trek. George Lucas is showing zero signs of getting his stuff together. He has screwed his own franchise into the ground, with longtime fans walking away with every new installment. Star Trek, on the other hand, has fans walking out talking about a new trilogy. New adventures. Hell, begging for a new series with this cast and run by J.J. Abrams. The sky is the limit. The next few years (at least) belong to the Trek.
