'Sorority Row' UK Review
Sisters for life... and death in this horror starring Briana Evigan and Rumour Willis. Out in cinemas 9th September.
E1 Entertainment
With gorgeous scantily clad girls, a high body count and a black sense of humour Sorority Row has everything you want from a teen slasher film. Based on the film by Mark Rosman, The House on Sorority Row, it keeps the same premise, but this time round its Hollywood. With a major face lift, it is definitely more violent and humorous than the original. In this version we have super gorgeous girls, Cassidy (Briana Evigan), Jessica (Leah Pipes), Claire (Jamie Chung), Ellie (Rumer Willis), Chugs (Margo Harshman) and Megan (Audrina Patridge). As leaders of the college Theta Pi Sorority house, they live a carefree and perfect life, that is, until their idea of a prank goes horrifically wrong... So, what's the crack? In a nutshell, these gorgeous little ladies find out that Megan's fella cheated on her. What do they do? What any group of best friends would do - get revenge. How do they do it? Trick the cheating boyfriend into thinking he has killed her. What happens? He falls for it, panics and kills her for real - eeek! So, they dump the body and vow never to speak of it again. Precisely one year later a hooded maniac shows up with the murder weapon and promptly begins killing them and anyone involved, one by one... Pretty much your average year at college stuff, really!!!?? Okay, so it may sound a little far-fetched, but isn't that the idea of a good horror film; to be scared in a dark and amusing way? What's good about this film is the writers made their girls distinct and realistic - you hate and love them. You have the ones you want to die, preferably quickly and gruesomely, and you have the ones that you are rooting to survive. There are some real laugh-out-loud moments, mostly provided by Jessica's character, the super bitch. The killings are beyond harsh, quite shocking, in fact. If a boy was to take his girl to watch this, it is a sure fire way of getting her to cuddle up and hide in his arms. Game on! As a female-driven cast, it helps that they are all beautiful, but don't let that fool you. These girls can act and have brilliant chemistry together. Easy comparisons can be made to films such as I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is fair, but we are twelve years on now, so the ‘teens' watching this will not have seen the previous ‘teen slasher flicks'. Ok, so it is nothing groundbreaking, but it is good fun - if you find watching people getting killed in the most horrific ways possible 'fun'! Full off half-naked, kick-ass girls, ripped boys, copious amounts of blood, guts and gore it is clearly made for the MTV generation: it's good, ‘wholesome' horror-filled fun with good vs bad. Will it follow in its predecessors' path with a sequel? Well, you have to watch it to find that out! Synopsis A group of sorority sisters find their solemn pact (trust, secrecy and solidarity) sorely tested when a prank spectacularly backfires. Sworn to silence following the tragic death of one of their own, they try to continue their lives as normal - however, a killer is on their trail and is intent on dispensing increasingly violent forms of retribution.
