So Who's The New Woody Allen?

The geriatric genius writer-director has cast someone just like him as his new lead.

Woody Allen has made a career out of sharing the screen with much (much) younger and beautiful actresses. But apparently he's getting a bit long in the tooth, even for his taste and so he's hired a hotshot younger stud to replace him as the "Woody Allen-type" in his next movie. Is it Brad Pitt? Adam Goldberg? Le Shia?

You got it ... Larry David.

I'm a big fan of David and think he'd make for a great younger "Woody Allen-type," even if Allen probably has more hair. I'm pretty sure Woody's glasses are a thicker prescription and he looks closer to the casket than the spry David. But that doesn't mean I'm entirely cozy with the idea of the Curb Your Enthusiasm geriatric putting his livery-spotted paws over Evan Rachel Wood.

That's exactly what Jeffrey Wells has reported will happen in Allen's upcoming, untitled romantic comedy. And to be honest, I really don't have that much of a problem with it. We're used to seeing young chicks with older dudes. We're especially used to Woody Allen with young chicks. Okay, maybe "used to" is the wrong way to put it because it still makes me a little nauseous. But I at least get that this happens in my universe. I think my biggest problem is actually seeing Larry David in a romantic relationship with someone other than Cheryl Hines (of course, they split up on Curb Your Enthusiasm and he ended up with Vivica A. Fox. That wasn't strange... )

I say we scratch this David-Rachel Wood combo and take this trend to new heights. How's about Peter O'Toole and Ellen Page sex up the screen together? He already had his trial run hitting on the younger lasses in Venus and I say he's prime for a repeat.

The real hook of this project is the Woody Allen-Larry David dynamic. Both are very smart comedians that should compliment each other well. David excels at awkward humor and Allen has always been, well, awkward. It might be a match made in heaven, or at least a closer match than a real-life pairing of their (much) younger costars. I'm trying to shake it, but if David smacks tongue (Editor's Note: We think Dre is searching for a way to make "kissing" cool here.) with Wood, I will get an incurable case of the heebie-jeebies.
