She played Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand. But the real reason I'm convinced she's a star on the rise is her scary good work in the indie Hard Candy.
Pros:
First of all, she's one of the best actresses on this list. That helps. Ellen hails from Nova Scotia which sounds very exotic at first but it really isn't. It's just Canada. But she has a quality few actresses do: she can pull off short hair... which is important, you know, if the character requires it.
Cons:
There are five people on earth who know who she is. Two of them are her parents. It's a problem.
