NBC's 'Talent' is a hit, but CBS wins ratings week

NBC's got a hit so far with "America's Got Talent."

In its second week, "Talent" retained the top prime-time position as well as taking the No. 2 slot, according to Nielsen Media Research. It even scored ninth place with an encore airing.

But in a rerun-laden holiday week, CBS claimed the lead overall, bolstered by its hit scripted dramas. NBC was runner-up.

CBS averaged 6.9 million viewers (4.5 rating, 9 share), while NBC had 5.4 million (3.5 rating, 7 share). Fox had 4.2 million (2.6 rating, 5 share), while ABC had 3.7 million viewers (2.4 rating, 5 share). My Network TV had 1.4 million viewers (0.9 rating, 2 share), the CW 900,000 viewers (0.6 rating, 1 share), and ION Television 580,000 viewers (0.4 rating, 1 share).

Among the Spanish-language networks, Univision led with a 3.3 million average audience (1.7 rating, 3 share). Telemundo had 1.1 million viewers (0.5 rating, 1 share), TeleFutura 750,000 viewers (0.4 rating, 1 share), and Azteca 170,000 viewers (0.1 rating, 0 share).

As usual, NBC's "Nightly News" topped the evening newscasts with an average of 8.3 million viewers (5.6 rating, 12 share). ABC's "World News" was second with 7.2 million viewers (4.8 rating, 10 share) and the "CBS Evening News" had 5.7 million viewers (3.9 rating, 8 share).

A ratings point represents 1,145,000 households, or 1 percent of the nation's estimated 114.5 million TV homes. The share is the percentage of in-use televisions tuned to a given show.

For the week of June 29-July 5, the top 10 shows, their networks and viewerships: "America's Got Talent" (Tuesday), NBC, 13.15 million; "America's Got Talent" (Wednesday), NBC, 11.44 million; "NCIS," CBS, 10.83 million; "The Mentalist" (Tuesday), CBS, 10.55 million; "The Mentalist," CBS, 9.79 million; "Two and a Half Men," CBS, 9.29 million; "60 Minutes," CBS, 8.39 million; "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," CBS, 8.236 million; "America's Got Talent" (Tuesday-repeat), NBC, 8.235 million; "CSI: NY," CBS, 8.20 million.
