Maura Tierney Has Breast Tumor

The former ER actress will undergo surgery to remove the tumor.

Maura Tierney will undergo surgery to remove a tumor in her breast.

The actress, 44, is best known for her role as Dr. Abby Lockhart on NBC's long-running hospital drama ER. Her latest project, ABC's Parenthood, is halting production under Tierney can resume work.

"I'm very optimistic as to the outcome [of the surgery] and want to thank everyone who has sent positive thoughts and support," Tierney said in a statement. "I look forward to going back to work soon."

The show, which is inspired by the 1989 film of the same name, had been scheduled to premiere in September but is now slated for midseason.
