Shane Meadows' new improvised comedy, starring Paddy Considine -
Warp Films
Le Donk
& Scor-Zay-Zeeby is an improvised comedy, shot over five days by Meadows, devised with and starring Considine. Rock roadie and failed musician, Le Donk (Considine) has lived, loved and learned. Along the way he's lost a girlfriend (Olivia Colman)
and his life has turned to shit. But he has found a new sidekick in
up-and-coming Nottingham rap prodigy Scor-zay-zee (playing himself). With
Meadows' fly-on-the-wall crew in tow, Donk sets out to make Scor-zay-zee (and
himself) a star - with a little help from the Arctic Monkeys. This
low-budget rockumentary follows Le Donk and Scorz on their journey of a
lifetime; it's an unpredictable, irrepressible ode to spontaneous filmmaking
- and to a burgeoning UK rap talent.
The film was shot in 5 days as part of Warp's and Meadows' new scheme '5
Day Features' created to encourage young film-makers to get out there and
start shooting. The budet went little over £48,000, including
post-production, and is almost completely improvised. When shooting finished
Le Donk was only set for a digital release, but as more and more interest
rolls in, the film keeps on getting bigger, now with a theatrical release,
DVD release and special edition DVD release coming later this year. -------
Film.com's FREE movie of the week is "Love the Hard Way." Oscar-winner Adrien Brody and Charlotte Ayanna star in this drama about a thief who falls for a curious, beautiful young woman. As their intimacy grows, a slick cop (Pam Greer) is closing in.
