In politics-as-entertainment news this morning, Joe the Plumber is the new (unlikely) hero of primetime, and everyone is buzzing about a possible Sarah Palin cameo on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight.

Our take: Palin won't show up. We've been let down by her before. But we'll be happy if Tina Fey pays a visit to SNL's Thursday primetime special as a Palin substitute.

On last night's show, Letterman hinted that John McCain may have Palin in tow when he arrives on the talk show for his much-ballyhooed make-up session with Letterman. You'll recall that McCain ignited a bit of a feud with the late-night host by dissing him for Katie Couric last month.

Also, how long can it be before Joe the Plumber gets his own reality show?
