It was the summer of love in Hollywood, with celebrities pairing off, putting a ring on it, and getting hitched seemingly every week. But now that summer's over, which new couples will make it long enough to celebrate the holidays and toast the new year?
We take a look at some budding romances and predict who will remain cozy through the fall, and who will be just another summer fling.
Kate Hudson & Alex Rodriguez
Well, who can believe this? Fresh off his marriage-ending fling with Madonna, A-Rod hooked up with All-American beauty Kate Hudson, and he's been batting 1.000 (well, almost) ever since. Far from the Jessica Simpson curse that felled Tony Romo, A-Rod has been hitting so well in the post-season that sports analysts have suggested Hudson start dating the entire team. As the Yankees head into the World Series, Hudson will no doubt be front and center. But will she stick around in the off-season? Knowing how superstitious baseball players can be, we say A-Rod isn't letting go of his lucky charm anytime soon.
Taylor Swift & Taylor Lautner
This fledgling coupling is just too cute for words. The teen superstars -- she's a Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, he's a werewolf with a heart of gold -- have been sweetly flirting ever since they shared an onscreen kiss in the upcoming romantic comedy, Valentine's Day. Though her busy touring schedule and his filming for New Moon have kept them long-distance over the summer, the pair have been spotted around Los Angeles recently, leading to a tabloid frenzy. Will it last? We think it's just another case of puppy love that will be over by, well, Valentine's Day. But at least it should give Taylor Swift some more songwriting material.
George Clooney & Elisabetta Canalis
Ah, Clooney. Hollywood's most coveted bachelor has been squiring yet another gorgeous brunette around town, and this time the lucky lady is Italian TV personality Elisabetta Canalis. The pair have had a romantic summer: double-dating with Clooney pal Matt Damon and his wife, motorcycling around Los Angeles and lounging at Clooney's Lake Como estate. Clooney and "La Canalis," as she's known in Italy, went public in September, walking the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival. Will it last? Please. It's Clooney. La Canalis should enjoy it while it lasts.
LeAnn Rimes & Eddie Cibrian
The couple at the center of this summer's most scandalous love triangle are officially dating, after months of denials and secret rendezvous that turned out to be not so secret after all. The country crooner and the handsome actor, who met a year ago while starring in a Lifetime TV movie, both left their spouses and then celebrated their new romance with a Mexican getaway. Will they be the next Brangelina? Given the 10-year age difference and the complications of an extremely P.O.ed ex-wife, we're thinking they should hold off on adopting a multicultural brood anytime soon.
Katy Perry & Russell Brand
She kissed a girl and liked it, but these days Katy Perry is all about her new guy: Russell Brand. The songstress and the British comedian -- known to American audiences for his role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and hosting the MTV Video Music Awards -- have been coy about their budding romance, but showed up at Paris Fashion Week in mid-October holding hands and hitting the party circuit. Did they fall in love in the City of Lights? Only time will tell, since they aren't telling anything.
Jennifer Aniston & John Mayer
Noooooo! Say it ain't so! Jen just can't seem to get enough of serial dater John Mayer. The on-again, off-again couple, who broke up in March after a very public outing to this year's Academy Awards, is reportedly back on after Jen's rumored flings with Bradley Cooper and Gerard Butler fizzled. But is it true love or just a publicity stunt? Naysayers think John's just using her to promote his upcoming album release in November. We say Jen is either a glutton for punishment or believes there's no such thing as bad publicity. Jen: You're wrong.
Paris Hilton & Doug Reinhardt
Speaking of bad decisions, Paris Hilton is back with that fame-monger Doug Reinhardt. You may remember him from his brief stint (fake-)courting Lauren Conrad on The Hills, or maybe from the countless paparazzi photographs of Doug and Paris sucking face on red carpets all over the world. We actually could not care less whether this couple stays together or breaks up, so long as they do it behind closed doors and stay out of my tabloids. Sigh. Wishful thinking.
