Heroes Keeps Using the Big Ol' Reset Button

There's only so many time the writers can tell us, "Hey, just fooling," before we get bored with it.

Chapter 11: "Powerless"

Well, that was pretty anticlimactic, I thought. Gotta be careful with that big reset button: it can make even saving the world feel pretty undramatic.

Mohinder goes home to find Sylar and Maya in the apartment. She lets slip that Sylar's powers are gone, and Mohinder grabs a knife off the table. Unfortunately, Sylar has a gun, and Maya finally catches on to what a big old jerk Sylar is. Mohinder agrees to help Sylar... but only at his lab. There, Molly tries to use her power to find Alejandro for Maya, but he's "nowhere," he's dead, and Maya screams at Sylar until he shoots her and she dies on Isaac's mural of the New York bomb on the floor. Very dramatic. But aha -- reset button! Mohinder has the healing blood. The writers were only kidding about her being dead.

Nathan and Matt fly to Primatech in Odessa -- not on a commercial flight, but the Heroes way. After getting the location of the virus from Mrs. Petrelli, her tongue was loosened by news of Adam's murder of Victoria and, oh yeah, her son Peter is still alive and apparently working with the would-be killer of humanity. There, they run into Hiro before the confrontation with Peter that last episode ended with. This is so that after Peter and Hiro finally face off in their frozen zone over Adam and whether he's a good guy or a bad guy, during which Peter zaps Hiro into unconsciousness, Hiro can start all over again with the trying-to-stop-Adam with the help of Nathan and Matt.

Peter and Adam rampage through the facility, tossing guards around, zapping security systems, and ripping apart vaults. Hiro jumps in, trying to stop them, and gets knocked unconscious. Matt shows up. Peter mind-duels him. Then Nathan pops in: he might be able to convince Peter that Adam is evil. Hiro jumps into the vault, where Adam is retrieving the virus. Adam rants about acting like God and washing the world clean, and Hiro touches him and they both jump away. The viral of virus that had been in Adam's hand falls toward the floor... but Peter runs into the vault in time to catch it. And destroys the vial. Hey, no biggie. That end-of-the-world thing? Ain't gonna happen.

Claire is still determined to reveal the secret of her powers, but everyone else is against it: Mom, West, probably even Mr. Muggles. Mr. Bennet shows up. Ooops! Didn't anyone tell Claire about the big reset button? Her dad was only mostly dead. Now, he's made a deal with The Company to keep the Bennet family safe, but only if Claire keeps her big mouth shut and Noah goes back to doing The Company's bidding.

There's a whole pointless bit in New Orleans about Micah and Niki saving Monica from the random thugs who've kidnapped her, the entire reason for which seems to be to contrive a way for Niki to get blown up and die. No reset button for poor Niki.

Elle, seeking to get back in her Dad's good graces, happens to see on the surveilliance camera that Bob happens to have in Mohinder's lab that Sylar has turned up. She arrives at the lab just in time to stop Sylar from killing Mohinder and Molly, and Maya again. He escapes with the last of the healing blood.

Tired of cleaning up the messes of his mother and her Company friends, Nathan decides to hold a press conference to tell the world about the Heroes. But just as he's about to tell the world he can fly, shots ring out in a Bobby Kennedy moment, and Nathan dies. We see the shooter's back -- looks like Mr. Bennet, gone to the dark side for the sake of his family.

Oh, and Adam? Hiro imprisoned him in a buried coffin, where he'll scream for all eternity, presumably.

End of Volume Two. Sneak peek of Volume Three: "Villains": Sylar injects himself with the last vial of the healing blood, and all his powers are back. "I'm back," he says to himself. The big reset button.
